Previously on the Life of Russ

Well not much has really happened since I last posted what I was up to.
I went to Brisbane at the beginning of the month for 5 days, I was meant to go with my flatmate but he could not find his passport, so I ended up going alone, it was actually nice to be in warm weather for a change, and being by myself I got to relax a bit.
I am currently in a competition with my flatmates in the biggest loser type event.
the person who loses the least amount of weight has to give the person who lost the most 250 bucks so I am working my arse of.
My job is going pretty well I am learning a lot as a Test Analyst, it really opens your eyes as to what really goes on with computers...
I am also doing a certificate in web design, I have always wanted to learn how HTML works, so hopefully I will be able to change the lay out of my blog without using templates...
nothing is really happening with the love life, just dull and quite as usual but its nice like that.

Carly Binding

Carly Binding (born 2 February 1978, in Tauranga, New Zealand) is a New Zealand Pop singer, who was a former member of TrueBliss. In 2000 she left the band citing personal differences, and decided to go solo. Her debut solo album 'Passenger' peaked at #6 on the New Zealand album charts and went gold. It was also released in Australia.
below is my favourite song of hers,
Alright with me
You could say that I'm bound to change,
I'm telling you it's all the same,
Who will pay for whatever it takes,
If neither one of us will wear the blame?
And there's nothing wrong with me (nothing wrong with me),
Taking it easy (nothing wrong with me),
Maybe I should fall into you (nothing wrong with me),
I'm taking it easy (nothing wrong with me)
IF IT'S ALRIGHT WITH YOU,
THERE'S NOWHERE I WOULD RATHER BE (rather be),
AND IT'S ALRIGHT WITH ME,
I DON'T MIND (I don't mind).
I'm not over all the letting go,
Should I turn around and wait for you?
Everyday is feeling low,
Do I really have to pay the due?
And there's nothing wrong with me (nothing wrong with me),
Falling to pieces (nothing wrong with me),
Maybe I should fall into you (nothing wrong with me),
I'm taking it easy (nothing wrong with me).
IF IT'S ALRIGHT WITH YOU,
THERE'S NOWHERE I WOULD RATHER BE (rather be),
AND IT'S ALRIGHT WITH ME,
I DON'T MIND THE COLD OUTSIDE
IF IT'S ALRIGHT WITH YOU,
THERE'S NOWHERE I WOULD RATHER BE (rather be),
AND IT'S ALRIGHT WITH ME,
I DON'T MIND THE COLD OUTSIDE,
Im taking it easy... (4x)
IF IT'S ALRIGHT WITH YOU,
THERE'S NOWHERE I WOULD RATHER BE (rather be),
'CAUSE IT'S ALRIGHT WITH ME,
I DON'T MIND THE COLD OUTSIDE
IF IT'S ALRIGHT WITH YOU,
THERE'S NOWHERE I WOULD RATHER BE (rather be),
'CAUSE IT'S ALRIGHT WITH ME,
I DON'T MIND THE COLD (I dont mind)...
Im taking it easy... (8x)

Love

As long as you love yourself nothing else should matter. Love is warm and fuzzy but love shouldn't always be expected. Love is special and cannot be given at will. You cannot love someone just like that, love grows with time. Love forms a bond between two people, indescribable and overwhelming. True love does not exist, love is the utopia of our lives and we all crave it without knowing what it truly is. Even if we think we love someone we could in fact just like them.
Love is when two individuals combine there lives to potentially form one special world. This world is like a tree it starts as a seed and forms a tree, as the tree grows it grows roots and becomes more stable so nothing will stand in its way. Sometimes the tree can be cut and potentially the love dies away, this tree could produces other seeds and these seeds can use the knowledge from the mother tree and form stronger bonds/love with others. So just because we don't have love, it doesn't mean our children should miss out. - Dylan Aplin

My biggest fear of all

Like all insects, a praying mantis has a three segmented body, with a head, thorax and abdomen. The abdomen is elongate and covered by the wings in adults. Females have strong and large cerci. The first thoracic segment, the prothorax is elongated and from it arises the modified foreleg.

Freedom

In the context of internal control, freedom is also known as self-determination, individual sovereignty, or autonomy.
The protection of interpersonal freedom can be the object of a social and political investigation, while the metaphysical foundation of inner freedom is a philosophical and psychological question. Both forms of freedom come together in each individual as the internal and external values mesh together in a dynamic compromise and power struggle; the society fighting for power in defining the values of individuals and the individual fighting for societal acceptance and respect in establishing one's own values in it.
In those with spiritual beliefs, freedom may encompass the peaceful acceptance of reality. The theological question of freedom generally focuses on reconciling the experience or reality of inner freedom with the omnipotence of the divine.

Russells Amazingly Fantastic Pumpkin Soup

Russells Amazingly Fantastic Pumpkin Soup
Get about 1/4 of a pumpkin and one potato and chop them up as fine as you can be bothered, place in a pot with just enough water to cover them.
Then just simmer them for about an hour uncovered, making sure it doesn't boil dry - do it over a low heat.
Then just mash them straight in the pot, and add whatever seasonings you want
I suggest all purpose seasoning, paprika, and italian herbs - Yum!
Serve.

Lady Grey is a proprietary branded tea variety and registered trademark of Twinings. Lady Grey is the pair-tea of Earl Grey and includes everything that is contained within Earl Grey tea along with Seville orange, lemon, bergamot and petals of cornflowers.
At the time when Lady Grey tea was first made it was believed the addition of fruits would counteract improper impulses that tea was widely believed to have upon the female temperament.

I have a voice

"Sometimes I wonder what you boys would do if you weren't gay. You'd have no identity. It was easy when you couldn't talk about it. Now it's all you talk about. You talk about it so much that you forget about all the other things that you are."
I was watching Broken Hearts Club the other day, and when I heard those lines, it really summed up how I felt about the most gay guys, they come across all hung up on themselves. going to the gym everyday, wearing makeup to make themselves look clean, tidy and "pure looking" most really are hung up on themselves and the "gays of our lives" drama that goes on. They live life going on as "if it's not gay it's not worth knowing"
screw that, there is much more important things in life than going to the gay clubs every weekend so you can check out the latest fresh meet that has arrived on the scene hoping that you can get your hands on on their body.
Quite frankly I would rather be having a good time with my friends, having a good laugh about life and just living...
seriously guys you are missing out on the beauty of life, embrace it while you still have the chance and live

Loves Release
longing to be loved
pining to be released
where is my lover
who will set me free
I want your heart, cant you see
look at my image, face on
transparent and void
look straight ahead, nothing
you see right through me
you walk on by as you don't care
I am empty, filled only with despair
I want your heart, can't you see
black and cold
I want to be warm
your pleasant memories
distant and fade
give me hope a hint of a smile, at least
can't you see, I want your heart
I want your heart, can't you see

you suit it!

It's interesting. . .
I was sitting at Lava bar with Owen having a conversation, when an incredibly intoxicated young woman approached us swayed from side to side then blurted out "are you gay?"
I replied with "yes"...
she then replied with "you know I could tell, you wanna know why? ... you suit it"
it would have to be one of the funniest moments I have witnessed...
who knew that Gay is the new colour this season?

Scary stuff!
I was out on the town last night with a group of friend, we were having a good laugh on our way to another club, I said something to a chick that was walking past us, she came running back and said, "excuse me what did you say?" shes then pulled out a shard of glass on me and then said "All I have had is Fu*ken Sh*t since being in Wellington, why don't you just fu*ken leave me alone!"
Fortunately my friends managed to talk her out of doing anything crazy, I was completely stunned by the whole matter, I and basically just froze.
So the moral of the story is, never say things to randoms walking past you on the street, even if it is something so innocent like "hi how you doing" as you never know what they might do.

thoughts

At this moment there are 6470818671 people in the world, some are running scared, some are coming home, some tell lies to make it through the day, others are just not facing the truth, some are evil men at war with good, and some are good struggling with evil, six billion people in the world, six billion souls, and sometimes, all you need is one"
what do I do
what do I say
to have you close to me
make this yearning go away
I want you to hold me
I want you to stay
to have you close to me
and hold my hand everyday
when will you come
when will it be
to have you close to me
risking my heart
wishing on a star
that you will come to me
to have you close to me
keeping me safe

Butterflies Flying Backwards
Home of the trolley Dolly,
Check out chicks and teenage mums,
Dirty slobs and benefit bums
That's what we breed here”
- Owen Winter
You know its interesting, you hear such terrible things about a town, the murders, the gang wars with there dance moves which some how spell the name of the gang.
But of course in every town there are a few good things that blossom, one of these things is Tina Carter.
Tina Carter, with her Husband and two children, reside in Masterton. Tina is one of the most talented artists I know. I first saw Tina, when she performed in Castlepoint Dreaming, but more recently when Owen took me to visit her.
My theory is that the best conversations happen over a bottle of wine, and that is exactly what we did. She shared with me what she is currently working on, and then gave me an exhibition of her work, that I will remember for the rest of my life, it was honestly something one would only see in a movie, that is the only way that i can really describe how magical it was.
Unfortunately I don't have any of her work show you, but she for a small taster if your down near the railway station and look across the road on Aotea Quay, she has painted the murals on the big sheds there...
As soon as I can get a hold of more work she has done, I will let you know..

Campari

When ever I go to a bar, the first thing I always ask is if they have my drink of choice, Campari, if they do not, I usually get stuck on what I am going to have.
Campari is an alcoholic aperitif obtained from the infusion of bitter herbs, aromatic plants and fruit in alcohol and water. It is a type of bitters. One of the main ingredients is bark from Cascarilla trees that grow in the Bahamas.
The history of Campari began in Novara, Italy in 1860, with the invention of the original recipe by Gaspare Campari that is still in use today. The recipe incorporates over 60 ingredients and is kept confidential to this day. However, it is known that the colour comes from cochineal dye. In 1904, Campari's first production plant was opened in Sesto San Giovanni and the company began to export the brand overseas. The Campari brand is now distributed in over 190 countries.
In the Italian market, Campari mixed with carbonated water is sold in individual bottles as CampariSoda (10% alcohol by volume). CampariSoda is packaged in a distinctive bottle that was designed in the 1930s by Fortunato Depero. It was first created in 1932.
I drink it with orange juice, and has characteristics of grapefruit juice...

Damian Rice

Damien Rice was born in Dublin, Ireland to George and Maureen Rice and grew up in Celbridge, County Kildare, Ireland. He was originally in the band Juniper, a rock band which released the singles "The World Is Dead" and "Weatherman". On the eve of recording their first full album for Polygram in 1999, Rice became disenchanted with the commercial label and quit.
My favourite song of his is Cannonball was released in 2001 but then rereleased in 2004. I find it soothing, and I feel I relate to the lyrics, feel free to read below, while listening to the music video...
There’s still a little bit of your taste in my mouth
there’s still a little bit of you laced with my doubt
it’s still a little hard to say what's going on
there’s still a little bit of your ghost your witness
there’s still a little piece of your face i haven't kissed
you step a little closer to me
still i can't see what's going on
stones taught me to fly
love taught me to lie
life taught me to die
so it's not hard to fall
when you float like a cannonball
there’s still a little bit of your song in my ear
there’s still a little bit of your words i long to hear
you step a little closer each day
so close that i can't see what's going on
stones taught me to fly
love taught me to lie
life taught me to die
so it's not hard to fall
when you float like a cannon
stones taught me to fly
love taught me to cry
so come on courage
teach me to be shy
'cause it's not hard to fall
and i don't want to scare her
it's not hard to fall
and i don't wanna lose
it's not hard to grow
when you know that you just don't know

Poetry Time
Thunder and lightening
Send shudders through my soul,
Trembling the goodness that comes of you,
The strength of your gentle voice gives me joy,
Pining to hear it again, when you say my name,
I awake with gladness,
It is you that gives me drive
It is you that makes me feel alive,
It is you that makes the darkest day seem so bright,
It is you that gives me sight,
It is you that gives me pleasant dreams when I sleep at night,
It is you that drives my soul,
It is you that I'm falling for,
It is you that keeps me wanting more,
It is you that makes me happy when I'm feeling down,
With just a single thought of you,
It is you that puts a smile on my face ten thousand times a day,
It is you that I care about,
It is you, who I want more than anything in the world,
It is your smile that even though your miles away
Brings you close to me
It is you my love
It is you
It is you
It is you

food for thought
I'm a gay Christian and I am not ashamed of who I am, I believe that Jesus still loves me and that is never going to change.
Homosexual;
The English word homosexual is a compound word made from the Greek word homo, meaning “the same”, and the Latin term sexualis, meaning sex. The term “homosexual” is of modern origin, and it wasn’t until about a hundred years ago that it was first used. There is no word in biblical Greek or Hebrew that is equivalent to the English word homosexual. The 1946 Revised Standard Version (RSV) of the Bible was the first translation to use the word homosexual.
Sodomite;
There is no word in biblical Greek or Hebrew for “sodomy.” A Sodomite was simply an inhabitant of Sodom, just as a Moabite was an inhabitant of Moab. Any translation of the New Testament making use of the words “sodomy” or “sodomite” are clear interpretations and not faithful translations.
here is an interesting read there are more links on the sidebar of this site that will be worth a read
What does the Bible really say about Homosexuality?

Napier, For the time of your life!

On Friday afternoon I spent five and a half hours on the bus to get Napier, by then I was shattered but being in a totally different city, a burst of second wind lifted my energy levels right up again. By the time I arrived it was heading on 10pm and most places were closed or closing up for the night, we did manage to pop in to a bar, have a quiet drink, while watching people dressed from the 1930s waltz about the streets as well as watching a few vintage vehicles drive past, it was amazing.
Come Saturday we had a look around at what was going on around the city, vintage cars lined Marine Parade for what seemed miles.
The Streets were packed with so many people, it was such a great atmosphere! I so want to go back next year.
On Sunday Marc took me out to Waimarama, seriously talk about breath taking!Photo Courtesy of KenndyImages
We we then went to Craggy Range and I had my first official wine tasting, thinking back on it I so wish i purchased a a few bottles of wine, seriously they had a couple that were absolutely delicious! and it being such a beautiful place its no wonder they make lovely wine.
I really must get myself some next time I am up there.
Well that pretty much concludes some of the highlights of my visit to Napier. I absolutely enjoyed myself I will definitely go back again and I recommend you go too.

Napier

This weekend I am going to Napier... It is a good time to be going too, as it is Art Deco Weekend. I will try and remember to take pictures and tell of my expedition of exploring the Art Deco capital of New Zealand. In the mean time here is a little information on Napier, courtesy of Wikipedia
Napier (Ahuriri in Māori) is an important port city in Hawke's Bay, New Zealand. It has a population of 57,000[1]. Ten kilometres to the south lies Hastings, Napier's twin city. The two are sometimes known in New Zealand as "The Twin Cities".
The town is 332 kilometres (about four hours) northeast by road from the capital, Wellington. It has a population smaller than Hastings, but as Hastings is administered as a district, Napier is the only city in the Hawke's Bay region, which is the largest crossbred wool centre in the Southern Hemisphere and one of the largest apple, pear and stone fruit producing areas in New Zealand. It has also become an important grape growing and wine production area with the fruit passing from the growers around Metropolitan Hastings and then to Napier for exporting. There are large frozen meat, wool, pulp and timber tonnages passing through Napier’s port.
Napier is a popular retirement town and tourist resort, and has one of the most photographed tourist attractions in the country, a statue on Marine Parade called Pania Of The Reef. Her statue is regarded in Napier in much the same way that the Little Mermaid statue is regarded in Copenhagen, and bears some similarities to its Scandinavian equivalent.

now here's the story from A to Z

unfortunately I can not embed this video, for you to watch from my blog but its well worth the watch

Im gonna be there
it amazes me how fragile life is, at any moment someone you know can be taken from this earth, many different reasons take peoples lives, one of them being suicide, I didn't think that any of my friends would choose this road, but sadly one of my friends decided to take his own life, it hurts me to think that I could have been a better friend to him, and been there for him. As selfish as this sounds I'm defiantly going to make a greater attempt to be there for my friends, I don't believe that suicide should be an option. And you should all know that you can call on me when ever you need.

Short bus
below is a trailer and plot summary of the movie. if you are a film freak I thoroughly recommend you go see it.
Numerous New York City-dwellers come to the exclusive club Shortbus to work out problems in their sexual relationships. Rob (Raphael Barker) and Sophia (Sook-Yin Lee) are a happily married couple, except for the fact that she has never experienced sexual climax. This irony follows her to work, because she is a couples counselor who frequently has to deal with the sexual issues other couples have. Two of her patients are Jamie (PJ DeBoy) and James (Paul Dawson), a gay couple who have been monogamous for five years and counting. James wants to bring other men in to the relationship, and his own history with depression may hint at an ulterior motive. Ceth (Pronounced like Seth, played by Jay Brannon) may be the perfect addition to their family, but Caleb, a voyeur from across the street, may have his own ideas about that. At the urging of the two Jamies, Sophia visits Severin, a dominatrix with secrets of her own to reveal. ~ courtesy of IMDB-shortbus
